Canaan Growth Management Goals (Draft)





1. Encourage Growth and Development in Canaan, downtown and rural, while preserving community character and making efficient use of public services.



2. Encourage and implement an efficient system of public services and facilities that will accomodate growth and development.



3. Improve economic opportunity, particularly in the areas of small business and recreational business which will enhance the rural character of Canaan.



4. Encourage and promote better housing opportunities for Canaan residents.



5. Protect the quality of Canaan's water resources, including Sibley Pond, Lake George, Carrabassett Stream, Black Stream, and their tributaries, and our groundwater aquifers.



6. Protect Canaan's natural resources, including without limitation bogs and wetlands, wildlife and fisheries habitat, shorefront areas, and unique natural areas.



7. Preserve and enhance Canaan's farm and forest industry.



8. Preserve Canaan's historical and archeological heritage.



9. Promote and protect public outdoor recreational opportunities, including access to public waters.
